LIBERIAN CHILDREN'S SCHOOLING PROJECT

About

This classroom is in a new school building was funded by the World Bank / LACE.  In 2005-6 the UN Development Programme.  Unfortunately, these funding sources are being discontinued and must be replaced by donations of money and materials to continue education to rural Liberian Children.

LCSP wants to provide elementary and high school education in four rural locations. Then LCSP also provides vocational training.

LCSP Phase 1: Operate on donations to pay the $40/month salaries of teachers plus school supplies plus repair of the buildings damaged during the war.  LCSP is a 501(c)(3), IRS tax deductible, charitable, organization.

LCSP Phase 2: Develop wholly owned construction company, farm, bus line, etc. both to provide employment to graduates and to replace the initial donations required in phase 1.

Founding of Liberia

The Republic of Liberia was founded as a place to send free blacks by the American Colonization Society under the authority of a United States Congressional charter in 1816.The American Colonization Society purchased the land in 1822 from tribal chiefs. The price included a box of beads, three pairs of shoes, a box of soap, one barrel of rum, and twelve spoons. By 1865, 14,000 slaves freed from America, and 6,000 from elsewhere, had settled in Liberia. The official language is English, and the capital of Monrovia is named for James Monroe. Ironically, for a nation settled by freed slaves which forbids slavery in its constitution, the Liberian government was accused of enslaving the tribal people for work on projects domestic and abroad.  from http://shagtown.com/days/liberia.html
